SADUN EMREALP
He was born in Istanbul in 1954. He completed his secondary education at Tarsus American College and his higher education at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Middle East Technical University. After completing his master's degree in the same department, he continued his master's and PhD studies at Ankara University SBF and University of Kent. He worked as the Deputy Director in the Çukurova Urban Development Project between 1982-1986. He took part in the management of the regional sections of (initially) International Union of Local Authorities (IULA) between 1987-2003, and (subsequently) United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) between 2004-2010, both based in Istanbul. Simultaneously, he served as the National Coordinator of Türkiye Local Agenda 21 Program, which was conducted between 1998-2009 under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). After concluding these undertakings, he served as the Team Leader in three consecutive EU-funded projects, namely "Improving Participatory Strategic Governance at Local Level" Project carried out between 2011-2013 by the Ministry of Interior, "Strengthening of Local Investment Planning Capacity with the Participation of Local Actors" Project carried out between 2014-2016 also by the Ministry of Interior, and more recently the "Town Twinning between Türkiye and the European Union" Project carried out between 2018-2021 by the Directorate for EU Affairs. During this period, he also served as a short-term senior expert in various projects of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). In his semi-retirement, he currently supports the "Support to Local Governments Response, Recovery, and Reconstruction Following the Earthquakes in Türkiye" Project as a Senior Advisor, which is conducted by VNG International (International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities) with the support of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye. Sadun Emrealp, who is married and having two daughters, has numerous publications in Turkish and English in the field of political science and local governments.
